In an article that I got from microfilm recently that was originally published in the Waikato Times (via NZPA, Wellington) on the 17th of September 1987, it states that the F4U-5 Corsair donated by Walt Disney Corp. to the RNZAF Museum would arrive the next day.
The article quotes an RNZAF spokeman, Flying Officer Peter Northcote, saying"it was hoped the machine would fly again."
Were they considering adding the Corsair to the Museum's Historic Flight?
I've never heard before of any intent by the museum to get it flying and wonder, did Northcote work for the Museum or was he perhaps just voicing an uneducated opinion?
I do know that later work began on the Corsair to change it from an F4U-5N to an F4U-1 model. This was later resinded and all the work reversed, before it became a swap item and they got the P-40F, which is also being backdated to a P-40E.

It's the first I'd heard of such a plan. It certainly would've been great to have the HF feature a fighter or two, rather than just Harvard 15 and the Tiger. Perhaps the RNZAF could be persuaded to buy ZK-COR? Just imagine, the RNZAF buying its first fighter since 1970!
How is the Wigram P-40 coming along? Last time I was there (post-Wanaka 04) I unfortunately missed out on the restoration shop tour. I'd be keen to see progress photos.
