I wouldn't believe that Bruce, it's Hamilton Airport, notorious site of previous misleading adverts saying the Russian Knights Sukhoi Su-27 team was coming, and the Patriots display team from the USA.... they never show up...

To be fair Dave/Bruce, it's not Mr Ross this time. Our beloved Club Captain tends to go for aesthetics over facts in order to make an impact on her posters. There's no intention to mislead here.

A simply marvellous day.
Early morning flight right across Auckland International, and then down past Te Kowhai into Hamilton. Thought I might win the furtherest distance award, but the lady from Napier beat me to that one. After a suitable period seeing the sights and photographing the locals at Hamilton I upped stakes and flew across to Matamata.
Sat in the deck chair and watched Peter Ryan's son get to grips with their new Tiger Moth ZK-BLM (just arrived from the South Island last week) while chatting with Paul from the gliding club and eating lunch (courtesy of Meredith).
Final leg home to Whenuapai in the latish afternoon just beating the Tobago in for speed (go the Aerobat!!). One of those days to remember.

Good on ya Peter, that's what aviating is all about! No matter how much you've spent, those memories and feelings are worth the price in my humble opinion. Looking forward to your pics...

(Now I have got my new Windows 10 computer on the go, I can access the photos). Compared to last year, there was a relatively small turnout of visitors for the event. In order of arrival, the visiting aircraft were: ZK-CDY Cessna 180A from Te Awamutu ZK-BQV Piper PA18A Super Cub 95 from Te Kowhai ZK-VCT Cessna 172P from Napier ZK-EBE Piper PA28R Cherokee Arrow 200 from Te Kuiti ZK-DKP Cessna 180K from Tauramga ZK-KDW Tecnam P2008 from Tokoroa ZK-OCC Cessna 170A from Ohinewai ZK-JFY Cessna 152 from Ardmore ZK-FLH Cessna A152 Aerobat from Whenuapai ZK-EJS Cessna 172N from Taumaranui ZK-JBL Cessna A152 Aerobat from Ardmore ZK-JDH Piper PA34-200T Seneca II from Ardmore The small but interesting lineup Everybody enjoying the breakfast The welcome from the locals Awards for furtherest, earliest, closest Erin Spencer from Napier, with her loot for having come the furtherest away - yet she still managed to get there at 8.40am.

Some notes:
For those who are interested and want to do the math, MCT for Sunday 21 August was 0643.
Both BQV and OCC originated from Hamilton Airport. My fellow grid judge and I were on watch 45 minutes before ATC was and we witnessed their departure.
When Bill Henwood 3 pointed BQV his mains were on one side of the target line and his tailwheel was on the other. We didn't know quite how to judge that so we gave him his own prize.
OCC departed off 25 and returned onto 07, which made it ineligible for the landing competition because the landing grid was on 18R.
Names for the photos, in Photo 3 that is WAC vice president Graeme Milne on the left, Erin Spenser sitting with her back to the camera, Kevin Vile from FlyingNZ (and Taumaranui Aero Club)to the right of the whiteboard with Moira Hadrell (WAC) behind to the right. Photo 4 is Graeme, Erin and Moira with Bill Henwood (BQV) receiving his prize.

I stopped at Matamata on my way back home to eat my lunch and see if there was anything interesting going on. I was not disappointed. The first thing to catch my attention after landing was the Slepcev Storch ZK-STO. It has been in the country since 2014, but this was my first sight of it. A nice looking beast Parked out alongside the Storch was the colourful SkyStar Kitfox IV Speedster ZK-JRK Find of the day was Tiger Moth ZK-BLM This has been for sale on TradeMe for some time, and has now been sold. It arrived at Waharoa just the previous week. Pushed out of the hangar while I was there, it was then prepared for a type-rating session Fu-24 950M started life with Wanganui Aero Work back in 1966. Airfarm Ltd., Matamata have had it since 2008 Among the other interesting activity was local Cessna 172R ZK-VAT, ex-Ardmore Flying School This is now powered by a Continental Turbocharged Diesel Silentium 155 engine that drinks Jet A1 fuel. It also has a high performance MTV composite propellor. Quite a different sound from your normal Cont/Lyc. and so off home.

VAT of course was rebuilt following a misadventure in a sewage pond at Thames, I'm sure they got the smell out eventually... That paint scheme always catches me too, from a distance it just looks like it's going flying with the cowls off!

I thought it was ZK-OUI that went into the sewage pond at Thames, till I found out they both did!
