Have any NZ based Harvards ever worn anything but military colour schemes?
Most are or have been in accurate RNZAF colour schemes as worn on that particular aircraft at some time in their career. There has been at least one in US Navy colours while with the AFC, and another in US Marine colours with the CAF. Also the SAAF example too.
The only innaccurate schemes I can think of are the Lady Wigram scheme and then the current latter scheme on ZK-WAR, and the personalised scheme on ZK-ENE where it was in blue and green cmo with the registration as its code letters. These two were of course psuedo-military anyway.
Overseas many Harvards/Texans fly in unique civil schemes, such as the erodescent green water-skiing team in South Africa, or the various colourful racers in the USA. Has NZ seen such schemes on our Harvards?

Can't think of any that have worn 'civil' schemes. Don't forget the South African scheme has also been worn by an ex SAAF Harvard here.

There might have been one harvard that was a bit different. You might remember back to when the ad was done for the overseas Tiger Beer ad, From what I remember there was the Yellow P51, Corsair with a symbol covering the roundel and there was a harvard involved as well but Im not sure if it was re painted like the Yellow P51, now that thing was a great view

Yes, I was involved with that advert. The Corsair had bulldog cartoons pasted over the roundels. I think he was meant to represent the big rival in the air race. The Harvard however, which was a silver one and may have been NZ1033 from memory, didn't have a temporary scheme as far as I saw.

Peter, you've given away the plans for Air New Zealand's new budget airline! ;D
Great photo, thanks.

Peter, was that Harvard flyable at that time?
adf.serials has this as:
"Disposed of by GSB to New Zealand National Airways Corporation Technical Training School, Auckland 08 October 1971. Dismantled in Christchurch in 1972 and transferred to Auckland. To J. Saunders, Blenheim and stored."
No mention of this afterlife at Mangere

Peter, was that Harvard flyable at that time? Nobody mentioned flyable. I wouldn't think so.

I think that is a very interesting scheme for a model , does anyone have any more pictures of it or details about the scheme ?

In the early 1980s I recall sitting in a Harvard at Harewood that still had NAC colours on it!
Another one of the Harvards handed over to NAC for instructional training: wonder where it is now?

Possibly NZ1044 Corsair67? Sold - owner in Rolleston, reportedly under rebuild to airworthy.

I'm sure NZ1044 was the one; I recall finding out a little more about it afterwards because I was curious to know why Air NZ had an ex-RNZAF aircraft.
Good to see she'll possibly be skyward bound once more.

Of course, NAC was created with loads of ex-RNZAF aircraft, and personnel, so not really a surprise I guess

NAC and air NZ used Harvards as instructional airframes for many years. Until recently the technology used in them was very similar to that of the airliners that the engineers would look after in actual service. both companies had excellent apprentice programmes and the Harvard airframes were ideal as they didnt take up much space - essentially the same reasons the RNZAF kept Harvard Instructional Airframes!
