This was sent to me by my mate John Scullin tonight, who received it from the photographer, Dudley Payne. I'm told Dudley is happy for it to be posted here. That is his son in the foreground. Amazing sight isn't it?

I don't know the year I'm afraid but obviously a while before the photos that Peter (flyernzl) recently posted. My guess is early 1960's.
And yes, as the minister said when Wigram was established, "A shed will be necessary."

Will the A-4s and Macchi's look the same in 20 years with Aussie kangaroos appearing through some fading A-4 roundels.

Somehow I doubt the A4's will ever be left outside like that, it would be far too embarassing for those responsible for their original sale. They would disappear quielty and covertly I think.

Into a swamp near Ardmore - alongside an F4U-1 Corsair? ;D Fantastic photo - Dudley's son looks overwhelmed by the scene! Looks like there are superchargers from Pratt and Whitney R2800s in the foreground?

Back in Dec.'69, I was working in a building in Auckland opposite the (then) railway goods yards and, imagine my surprise one day when I spied a P40 Fuselage, looking rather like one of those, sitting on a railway wagon........was it John Chambers P40?

I would say that the Lyttleton Harvards are the Mark IIs heading north to TeKuiti. It explains the question I had regarding why the rear fuselages were cut at that particular point (rather than unbolted where the forward tube frame joind the monocoque section)- in order to fit in the wagons! At Te Kuiti of course the railway runs very close to the airfield, so they probably were just dumped off the train there.
