Took these pic's with my fairly new lens Sigma 150 to 600 on a mono pod, have only just begun to get to grips with this lens, it's quite heavy as well. The light conditions quite tricky, late afternoon with the sun coming and going. The other challenge of course is not knowing what the machine is going to do? ISO 400, zoom 215mm, F8, 1/160th, wanted a lowish shutter speed to get blurred blades. ISO 400, zoom 283mm, F8 1/160th,

Nice shots! A bigger heavy lens (more glass is good!) is more stable too, until the left arm gets tired!! But good use of a mono helps with stability and tiredness I tried filming a full rugby game yesterday with a new video camera, (Panasonic HC WXF990 18MP 4K) not using a mono was a big mistake - light camera with EVF and 5 x OS, but holding elbows in tight to the chest for 90mins is uncomfortable! Pivoting was difficult and bumpy too. 85min - 16GB on 1080 HD - deliberately chose not to use 4K. New large battery lasted the distance too as did internal memory. Bought it for Airshows and rugby.

just wondering what the reddish/orange device is in front of the windscreen. usually that colour would mean a blank of some sorts but since they are airborne, that would have been removed so something on test evaluation, but wouldn't that be done at ARDU.

Good spot, asked the crew about this, they where testing some new antennas and the machine had to be on hard ground for a few hours relating to this. They didn't go into much detail, may have been some of that secret military business they keep a bit hush hush from the civil world!

typical aussies, want to try things differently from original. one of the reasons the SH2G failed for them.

typical aussies, want to try things differently from original. one of the reasons the SH2G failed for them. There's more to it than that, though. Advances in shipboard air defences rendered the SH-2G(A) obsolete for its intended role so it made more sense to equip the ANZACs with AGM-84 and focus embarked helos on ASW.
