After last year, NO!!
But I saw three hot air balloons this morning at Innes Common.
Interesting they have returned the event there, away from the university.

I think you'll find, Dave that only the Night Glow is held at the University - all other events, as usual at Innes Common.
Probably won't be attending, or working, this year, but watching the balloons go over our house, with our little dog barking at the intrusion to her space.

Sadly it looks like they're a week too late, after beautifully fine weather last week there seems to be a storm coming on Metvuw just in time for the weekend...

Meanwhile, the Wairarapa Balloon Festival is being held during Easter weekend this year. However, I guess they tend to draw a different crowd from those who are likely to attend what is happening at Omaka.

Judging by the rain that is now falling across the Waikato I think this event is probably in doubt for tonight. I do know for a fact that the Black Falcons, who were planning to come up and display, cancelled just before 3pm as the cloud's too low.

However their Facebook page had this posted an hour ago:
"ZURU NIGHTGLOW UPDATE: Don't worry about the drizzle! Our weather forecasters predicted this and we expect clear skies to follow. The nightglow IS on, come on down to the University of Waikato for a great night."

Yes, looking at the weeks weather I decided Wednesday morning was the time to go. A few patches of drizzle hung around, but all the balloons that wanted to fly flew. This years special shapes visible at that time were: Aeromagic Special Shape Brazil PP-XFR 'Big Hug' entered by Rodrigo Da Silva 'Copter Boy' PP-XGH, which persisted in showing its backside as it flew away Alain Bard Alien Rocket-01 C-FIIY 'Alien Rocket' entered by Alain Bard Ultramagic SA F-35 N123UM 'Robbie for Ronald McDonald House' entered by Kim & David Lynch inflated but did not fly that morning Cameron Heart-90 N210VE 'Resene in Love with Colour Lovebirds' entered by Maria Chieruzzi inflated but did not fly that morning The only local entrant that I had not seen before was the colourful Cameron C-70 ZK-PPI 'Poppies' entered by Daryl McKee. For the record, other attendees were VH-OXZ VH-FRE ZK-FRG ZK-WHS ZK-PHX ZK-WON ZK-RYB ZK-FBB ZK-UPP plus ZK-CAF and ZK-PEA which inflated but did not fly and the bag from ZK-PGT which once again provided a walk-through experience for the crowd.

Interesting - I live about 2 Kilometres as the crow flies from Innes Common, and have not seen a single balloon this year. Normally balloons fly directly over us at least one morning.

On Wednesday they headed east, over the city and the university.

I do know for a fact that the Black Falcons, who were planning to come up and display, cancelled just before 3pm as the cloud's too low. The Black Falcons were obviously planning a busy day today, because TVAL were advertising on their Facebook page that they would be putting on a display over Hood Aerodrome at midday, but the weather hasn't been the best in Masterton all day. Only occasional showers earlier this morning, then a few spots of light drizzle during the rest of the day, but the cloud ceiling has been really low, so no good for flying, either for the Black Falcons or TVAL. Although I did hear somebody doing some aerobatics mid-afternoon just before I headed off to work, but I couldn't see them. Good that the Waikato Balloon festival has got some flying in though. I love seeing mass balloons in the air. And listening to all the dogs nutting off.

The Black Falcons cancelled both events. TVAL got up an Albatros and an SE5a but that's all apparently.
