An update on the progress of the Bristol Freighter at Ardmore which is being prepared to be shipped to England shows the wings were removed today. See here on the Pioneer Aero page: www.pioneeraero.co.nz/2017/04/07/b-170/

I guess its good the Brit's get a Freighter returned for a museum piece, it is one hell aircraft to climb up into the cockpit and even just to walk around it and kick the tyres, the Wigram Museum aircraft, amazing type after one grew up with them, even the sound was very unique, specifically when a fully laden'd Bristol started then chugged out from its NAC/SAFE AIR apron then go racing up on the outside stairs at Christchurch International, get to the front of the roof viewing platform, when got out on Rwy 20 and really wound those Hercules engine up, that sound, so different.

Good news that it will be preserved.

The old freighter has been a landmark there for so long, its sad to see her go, but I'm glad its going to a great collection in a most appropriate place in the UK. I wish them all the best!

I'd love to know how many engine cores and parts are going with it. There is/was container loads of spares held on site for the type. I assume enough to get it flying and have few spare engines!!

It's not intended to fly as far as I'm aware, just a full restoration to modern museum standards.

The fuselage was towed across the airfield to Pioneer Aero today (where the wings currently are). I assume they will further dismantle it for shipping?
