No, No, No............. my favourite comedian in the world...... "Then over she goes Trev...." He is just the Ace. Made a HUGE mark in Oz with his Olympics portrayls, his Small comedic politic satires. He is going to be missed so much.

I first became aware of John Clarke when he appeared in the television sitcom series “Buck House”.
For those of you who are too young to remember that television programme, it was about a student flat in Wellington with John Clarke regularly appearing in the programme as one of the hangars-on. I can remember my father being horrified at some of the antics those students got up to in the programme. It was a typical clash of values between young baby-boomers and the earlier war generation.

He was such an influence in my household, Mum and Dad both adopted many of his catchphrases. "That'll be the door"/"That'll be the phone" apparently came from Buck House, and then Fred Dagg's "Kick it in the guts, Trev", "B-r-u-ce", "Ah, yeah, gidday...", "Get in behind", "And over she goes, Trev", and oddly Mum and Dad had a habit of calling each other Trev when they were trying to get each other's attention. Many times I recall Mum would be talking to a customer or visitor and say "Are you there Trev?" or "Can you do this Trev?" and the person would be like "I thought his name is Gordon". I guess you had to be there but to me as a kid it was natural, haha. And no-one could ever have done Wal Footrot justice on screen like John Clarke did. He was a legend. We're losing too many Kiwi legends lately.

They just don't make them like they used to. Forty years on and still hilariously funny. RIP.

Who can remember that infamous incident when John Cleese slagged off Palmerston North, suggesting it was a good place to commit suicide. John Clarke leapt to the defence of his home town and suggested that the city's rubbish dump be renamed after John Cleese. A few months later, the Palmerston North City Council obliged and named a rubbish mound at the dump “Mount Cleese”. CLICK HERE.

Awfully sad news. I don't really have the words - he is such a part of Kiwi culture that at my primary school The Gumboot Song was part of our songlist. I also watched the Footrot Flats movie a lot as a kid.
Jeez. Terrible news.

I still cannot get over the fact that he is gone. I know all about the legacy etc but the fact that he should be here still........... and just 68! No more Clarke and Dawe...... its just inconceivable to me. The Trevs, the Real Estate Agents. The Goons, Monty Python then Fred were my upbringing.

How about a memorial gumboot drop at Omaka? Use the Anson, she's got the bomb bays for it!

How about a memorial gumboot drop at Omaka? Use the Anson, she's got the bomb bays for it! The original Fred Dagg gumboots are at Te Papa, although they would probably baulk at the idea of dropping them out of the bomb-bay of an Avro Anson.

Dropping the 'boots from a Wellington (aka Wimpy) would seem to be more appropriate, if only we had one! Errol

Errol Drop eight pairs of gumboots (One for Fred and one for each of the Trevs) suspended under mini-parachutes shaped like Fred's bucket hat. All while the Gumboot Song plays over the PA.
