I have an important announcement regarding the WONZ Show. I have recognised that most of the really popular aviation podcasts have a small team of people hosting the episodes, and they discuss the latest news and issues of the week/month off Google News and other sources; and they will do reviews, etc. I have never done this with the WONZ Show, and instead I have always been focusing on the guest's story rather than the magazine style of other shows.
However I am now considering a once a month show, interspersed with the regular style in-depth topic WONZ Shows, that has me as main host with an invited panel of aviation people (some of them semi-regular guest hosts, some one-off guests depending on what they have to say that month) to discuss a range of latest news, upcoming events, new products or services, etc. We'll take the opportunity to find out what the panel guests are doing in aviation at the time, what's on their minds about aviation issues, what books or films/TV/radio/podcasts they have recently absorbed that impressed them, and the likes. So basically I am looking at an occasional magazine style show.
We'd be covering the wide world of New Zealand aviation, such as warbirds, military aviation, general aviation, airline news, agricultural aviation, homebuilding, gliding, ballooning, museums, historians, regulatory issues, aviation media, etc, all depending on who's on the panel that month and what's happening in the world.
If an aviation event like a fly-in or an airshow is coming up we can get a representative of the group running it to come onto the panel for the show previous to their event to promote it. People wanting to promote their aero club or association can join the panel. Authors can promote new books on the panel. We can also have panelists giving trip reports if they have had an interesting recent flight in something interesting or to somewhere exotic too. And of course I can pre-record segments "out in the field" too which can be edited into the shows.
I am also thinking if any aviation companies would like to sponsor the show, I an sure their products or services can be mentioned, and perhaps tested and reviewed by panel members.
Each month will be a different panel of perhaps four people, all chatting via Skype from around New Zealand, but some will eventually be returning guest panelists. I reckon this format could prove very interesting, and I hope the listeners will think so too.
As I said, the idea if for this to be once a month, but the normal style of the in-depth one-to-one interviews of my podcasts will continue in the other weeks in between so listeners won't be losing that.
This is the idea anyway, what do you all think? Would you listen? Would you like to come on as a panelist to talk about your sector of NZ aviation? And would you consider sponsoring the show if you have an aviation product or service to promote? I may even consider naming rights on the magazine show, which has the working title of "The Crewroom". Maybe it could be "The *Your Product Here" Crewroom".
Please give me your thoughts, ideas, etc. Cheers, Dave!
