I'm very pleased to announce that following on from last week's episode where the well known and much respected aviation historian David Duxbury joined me to talk about the first 1000 bomber raid, he has enthusiastically agreed to come on as a semi-regular guest on the WONZ Show for a special history series. Our plan is to do a series of shows, perhaps once every month or so, where I will talk with David about specific topics from RNZAF history and cover them with in-depth information, interesting unknown facts, and a bit of humour thrown in too.
As this is the RNZAF's 80th Anniversary year as a separate service, and as David is an amazing font of knowledge on all things RNZAF (he's really a National Treasure in my opinion), we'll be covering the history of our Air Force. I reckon this will become an amazing series of special episodes, and will be well worth any fan of New Zealand aviation listening to.
As members of the WONZ Forum know, David posts some amazingly detailed posts here that always contribute valuable and often unexpected information and facts - he is a goldmine of information, for sure. So this series will be great.
We have already recorded a pilot show which was pretty much off the cuff to see how we'd go, and I think it's pretty interesting and entertaining. With a bit more planning and practice we'll really have something great on our hands. The first show will be released later this week and will focus on the history of the earliest years of our Air Force, from 1923 into the 1930's.
Future shows will look at specific topics, perhaps a focus on a particular aircraft type in RNZAF service, a particular air battle or campaign, a particular station or base, a person or group of people, etc, etc. Also I reckon we would very much welcome feedback from the previous shows with questions sent in from listeners that I can then put to David to follow up on.
So watch out for this exciting new series coming soon, and don't hesitate to suggest topics and themes for these episodes. All suggested episode topics will be considered for future shows down the track.
