Old as I may be I was just given to muse today about the status of the RNZAF UH-1 fleet as it nears the end of its days.
I well recall when they first got them and how proudly they brought one into my secondary school for us to ogle at in awe.
Has someone out there got a list of the serials and status of the fleet?

so does anyone know whats happening to them after they are replaced? Is there anything else they can be used for?
I hope someone keeps em flying, it would be a shame to not hear that sound at future airshows..

with regard to the above images
#1 get your bloody hats off while on the tarmac
I didn't see you had named it Dunedin before I thought it looked like dunedin, then i thought, a safe air bristol at dunedin. not many hours on the frames when these were taken.

I think at least one of the damaged ones is now an instructional airframe , and I think the museum one was aquired from the Americans and is in fact a slightly later model . With their predecessors still on charge and active , it might be a while yet before they are finally retired , and if the Skyhawks are anything to go by the Government might be a bit shy of trying to sell them !

There was an Iroqouis Instructional airframe on display at Classic Fighters last year. I think Dave asked someone about it's background, but I don't recall what the answer was.
Yes, the Museum one is an ex-US Army one, which I believe spent most of it's time in Germany(?).

I see a lovely Viscount in the background...... mmmmm.... Seconded! Gorgeous! I must say I am a fan of the UH-1 delivery scheme, not something I've seen terribly much of. Thanks a million for posting! And I'd be VERY surprised if none of the fleet remained in NZ....it's about time we had some more warbird choppers.

I wonder if the US State Department will hold up any sale of the choppers to civil hands, here and outside of NZ? I'd hope the Historic Flight gets a couple of airframes. As mentioned, they're a stable part of the NZ airshow scene. As much so as the Harvard in my opinion.
Those are excellent photos nzav8a. I wonder if that's Denys's Museum's Viscount in the background.
