The members of the Wings Over New Zealand Forum have been invited by Jessica and Geoff Cooper and the FlyDC3 team to host a special WONZ Forum Christmas Party gathering in their hangar at Ardmore Airport, Auckland. I am very grateful for this invitation, Jessica and Geoff are always wonderfully supportive of our forum meets and I think it's going to be very special to accept their invitation to hold an event at their place. This will be different from our usual Forum Meets that we hold - as a point of difference this is going to be a much less formal affair, a relaxed family aviation day, and a time to socialise and mix with fellow aviation fans and forum friends. FlyDC3 are to provide lunch as part of the ticket price, with the rest of the proceeds going towards the DC-3 special maintenance fund. We will have a few special guest speakers too, with Paul McSweeny of Pioneer Aero Restorations Ltd, and former RNZAF and Warbirds fighter pilot John Denton both planning to give talks. You will be able to get up close and personal to the aeroplanes based there, etc. Brett Nichols says he'll bring his Harvard NZ1065 over for the day for people to get up close to, and photograph, etc, too. A scenic flight will be put on by FlyDC3 in Dakota ZK-DAK at 10.30am for those who wish to purchase a flight. Contact FlyDC3 direct to pre-book this. Believe me, Auckland from the air in summer cannot be beaten, and nor can the DC-3 flights! www.flydc3.co.nz/The WONZ Forum Christmas Party will take place on Sunday the 3rd of December 2017. Doors Open 10.00am. 458 Corsair Lane, Ardmore Airport, Auckland Ticket cost: $20.00 per adult, or $10.00 per child aged 14 and under - payable on the day in cash or Eftpos at the door. Your family and friends are welcome, they do not have to be WONZ Members Now is also the time to post your suggestions, thoughts and ideas; and to show your support.

Is that a couple of weeks after the Ardmore November Open Day? Sounds good though!

Sunday 3rd December is right in the middle of two weeks leave I've got.
But I'm tied up in Wellington all of that weekend, so I won't be able to make it.

Is that a couple of weeks after the Ardmore November Open Day? Sounds good though! Probably, but they have not announced the date of their next event yet. We decided on December to avoid a clash with the Warbirds Open Day.

OK, this is the next Wings Over New Zealand event now, the WONZ Christmas Party at Ardmore on the 3rd of December, so it is time to start pushing things along a bit more and finding out who is coming.
We hope to have Paul McSweeny of Pioneer Aero at this event to tell us about all their current and future projects such as the P-39 Aircobra, P-40 Kittyhawks, de Havilland Sea Hornet, Vought Kingfishers, etc. And as we'll be literally right nextdoor to Pioneer, there's a good chance that Paul will be able to take parties of WONZ members through into their hangar for a look around the projects.
We are working on one or two other speakers and a few things to see too. Lunch will be provided as part of the ticket price, prepared by Jessica and her awesome team at FlyDC3. The tickets will be $20 per person which will cover lunch and a donation to the DC-3 ZK-DAK's maintenance fund.
More details will be announced as they get them finalised, but right now please let me know if you're keen to attend this, and send me any ideas, suggestions and thoughts. We'll start taking money for tickets a little closer to the day.

Great news, as well as Paul McSweeny from Pioneer, we'll also have another special guest, John Denton. Many of you will recall his displays in the Venom in the early days of NZ Warbirds. He was also an RNZAF jet pilot. He is happy to come along and talk about his experiences. This will be well worth seeing!

PLEASE CONFIRM TO ME A.S.A.P. BY EMAIL IF YOU ARE ATTENDING THIS EVENT.
We need to know how many are coming for the catering purposes.
Also let me know if you have suggestions, ideas or would like to show or present anything.
See the first post in this thread for all the updated info, by the way.

There is also a proposed scenic flight by Geoff at FLY-DC3 at 10:30am that morning, ZK-DAK I believe, anyway and have booked a seat myself, price unknown depending on how many we get obviously. Contact Jessica on 0800-359-323 - Note - Sunday 3rd December WONZ Forum Christmas Party as details... - this is quite important!! This is extra to the hangar visit and means extra costs perhaps as much as $100-$120. I'm in already!! Graeme

Just a note, Brett Nicholls just contacted me to say due to a diary mix-up, Harvard NZ1065 won't actually be available on the day as it will be away. But he'll be there with us though.

1. There are two entrances to Ardmore Airfield – Hamlin Road and Airfield Road. 2. The southern Hamlin Road entrance leads on to Harvard Lane. 3. The northern Airfield Road entrance, leads directly on to Corsair Lane.
Directions from the South: - Take the Papakura exit off motorway and turn onto Beach Rd.
- Drive across the intersection with Great South Rd and drive into Settlement Rd. Turn (L) into Marne Rd. Veer (R) into Clevedon Rd, and follow for a couple of kilometers.
- Turn (L) into Hamlin Rd. There are 2 really tight 90 degree bends so take care on this road. Turn (R) into the Airfield gates.
- Turn immediately left into Corsair Lane. Drive past Cessna Lane until you see our sign, hangar and carpark at 458 Corsair Lane. Directions from the North and West - From the City Centre , it takes 25 minutes to get to Ardmore. - Stay on the motorway, past ‘Tip Top’ Corner, drive past Manukau City…and take the Hill Rd turnoff at Manurewa .( By the Botanical Gardens) Turn (L) into Hill Rd. Follow for about a km, and veer (R) around the little round-a-bout into Stratford Rd
- At the large ‘roundabout’ at lower end of Stratford Rd, drive across to Alfriston Rd. (Careful – lots of cyclists!) Keep driving on this country road to the next ‘roundabout’ at Alfriston School, then turn (R) into Mill Rd – a long straight road.
- Drive down Mill Rd, until you get to the roundabout. Take care – (fast traffic from the right….) Turn left onto Airfield Rd.
- Drive 1.5 kms and at the end of the long straight, turn (R) into the airfield. Again - take care of fast oncoming traffic as you turn. Drive on Corsair Lane , Our hangar is the middle large one at 458 Corsair Lane.
The carpark may get busy - if it is full, park over the road on the grass verge by the fence.
