Sorry, Dave, but looking at the original, all I can see is: A R T
The writing to the right is very clear - M (?)No.A.205. I'll have a look at some other photos to see if I can decipher the writing, but it is obviously details about the aircraft.

Avro Rotary Trainer? I note that NZDF Serials says of 504K 205 "Appears to have been struck off charge by 31 May 1927 " So if that's the 1927 course it must have been near the end of its life

Good theory, batman! The refresher course appears to have run through February 1927.
Had a look at what photos I had, but nothing clear enough to decipher any aircraft stencilling
