According to EAA, this year's AirVenture airshow at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, had an attendance of approximately 590,000 people.
I remember when there was a time it used to be said that the 1969 Woodstock festival had the world's largest crowd gathered in one place - with 400,000 people.
It just goes to show how popular aviation really is. That is approximately 1/8th of the entire population of New Zealand at one airshow.
(For the record regarding crowd sizes Google states "An estimated 20-22 million pilgrims gathered in Karbala, Iraq for the Arba'een on 13 December 2014." But I don't think that was an airshow or a music festival...)

There are a lot more people in the world now than there were back in 1969.

That is very true. And a lot more music choices too I guess.

But unfortunately, Jimmy Hendrix died the following year.
However, Oshkosh is on my bucket-list of things to do at some point in the future.
But not until the Orange Goblin is but a distant bad memory.

But not until the Orange Goblin is but a distant bad memory. Objection, Your Honour! Relevance?
