Two P51D Mustangs collided at the Battle of Britain Airshow at Duxford. Both aircraft landed safely with minor damage.

This video on YouTube shows the collision (set to play a couple of seconds before) as they're moving to formate on Sally B - one of them drops rather quickly once it happens!
The sharkmouthed, RAF camo'd example "bit" USAAF-painted Miss Helen's tail, photos show a nasty gash on Miss Helen's port tailplane.

Untitled by Joe Smith, on Flickr Untitled by Joe Smith, on Flickr Bloody lucky, don't know how the second pilot lost sight of the first, looks like it bloody near hit the canopy! Glad they made successful emergency landings and are safe.

Also using microphones in the open without wind protection should be illegal

Very, very lucky. Is it just me or has there been a larger amount of classic / warbird aircraft involved in accidents this year. If so, why? Pilot experience on types, increased operations, etc.

That was purely lack of attention and failure of No.1 and No.2 to adhere to their 'contracts' with eachother to avoid collision. It is a major part of our safety discussion talks at each and every Temora Showcase briefing before the flying gets under way.

Mustangs have certainly had a hard time at Duxford this year!
A very clever person at the Key Publishing forum cropped and stabilised that footage to focus on the two Mustangs:

Another foot or so further back and the tailplane mainspar would have been toast but there not having my tailplane as a replacement ! So close. As Andy Bishop said this morning when I spoke with him "When you're in formation - you're in formation , not a loose gaggle". This enhanced shot and the extra seconds on the approach to the B.17 shall definitely form part of the safety brief before flying on the October showcase weekend.

That is not the footage that was pulled Ken, there was a cropped and stabilised version that showed it more clearly. I am not surprised it was pulled, someone will be trying to cover their butt before the upcoming enquiry.

Yes, methinks someone may have 'bought' that footage.
