Hello im a 16 y/o boy wanting to be a pilot in the RNZAF in the future. I was wondering if Pilots get to choose whether they become fixed wing or rotary pilots.

Welcome Morgan. My understanding is that during their flying training, these days on the Texan II's, the trainee pilots will get the option to put down their preference of where they'd like to head to once they have qualified. If they want to go to helicopters they can state that. It is then up to the instructors to decide if they feel they are right for whatever stream the student has chosen as a preference.
