Hi Guys.
I've recently picked up the Airfix (new mold) Mk1 Hurricane and Mk1 Spitfire. As I tend to build where ever possible aircraft either flown by Kiwis or RNZAF aircraft. with that in mind I'd like to do one of the Hurricanes flown by NZ Ace Cobber Kain.
I'm hoping you guys can help with pictures or serial/codes for his aircraft. One other thing to maybe make this a little more challenging I'd prefer it the aircraft had the black white undersides.
Many thanks in advance.
Oh currently a corsair is in the paint workshop
regards
Chris

Hi Chris,
'just of the cuff, Kain's Hurricane during his 26 March 1940 sortie (when he was wounded) was serial P2543. The serial of the Hurricane that he crashed to his death on 7 June 1940 was L1826 (source: British Air Ministry Casualty Packs for F/O E J Kain, TNA AIR 81/104 and AIR 81/2222)

I'm frustrated because I am sure someone sent me some copies of logbook pages from Cobber's logbook a while back, but I cannot rememeber who it was that sent then, and what I have done with them.

You'll probably find a few thing you weren't looking for, then next week when your looking for something else the thing you first started looking for will just pop up probably in a place you thought you looked ten times before. isc

Bill Kain's logbook shows No. 73 Squadron Hurricane serials up till the outbreak of war in September 1939, and after that his entries also change to just the single letters. Bill seemed to mostly fly "H" through September and October.

It's interesting how the white under this Hurricane does not seem to cover the whole starboard underside, and it looks like there are patched of Sky still visible.

Not Sky Dave, the early Hurricanes were Black & White over silver. The old Camouflage & Markings series of books cover this exceptionally well. Sky came a bit later.

Thanks for all the replies Guys. It's possible I'll be able to cobble the serial numbers from multiple decals. The Hurricane is next to be built, after 1.move house (next week) 2.complete corsair kit 3.Study for exam on Friday 4.Professional practice power point after exam. 5.2500 word essay due end of next week Not necessarily in that order
