Check out this letter, published in the New Zealand Herald on the 19th of September 1945, just 17 days after the surrender was signed with Japan and the war ended. Probably future Green Party voters...
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Day and Night Flying Sir, —- Do the Air Force chiefs know the war is over? If they do, why are we still subjected to the continual grinding of aeroplanes round and round the city, suburbs and harbour? Now they are restarting night flying. Even if one goes away to one of the islands in the gulf for a quiet rest one cannot get away from them. Why? What is the necessity — now? Surely there are enough seasoned personnel to last New Zealand for civil flying for the next ten years. And why the waste of petrol? It looks as if the Air Force chiefs were a law unto themselves.
