Check out CDF Kevin Short being interviewed on Q+A last weekend (11/11/2018). Amongst all the items of media importance some interesting observations on the P-8 fleet and a mention of China. I read an article yesterday about the PM visiting the Chathams, and the picture with the article showed her descending the ramp of the Herc, with a member of the NZDF saluting as she passed him. I didn’t think that the military saluted politicians? Can someone please clarify? Thanks.

Wrong. The PM and ministers of the government are to be saluted by all as they are considered to be superior officers.

Happened to see the cover of the latest North & South today, the lead article being about the terrible state the NZDF is in. That in itself caught my eye but interestingly the tag line concludes with something like “- and how we’re all left exposed”.

Media get into telling the true story...finally this is becoming an openly discussed topic which is exactly what is needed. Election year may make a little difference but the real bonus of this timing is the hugely positive press the NZD are getting at present with the exceptional effort being put into cyclone relief.
