Looks like Steve Fossett is in a spot of bother. The news said this morning that he may not have enough fuel to fly accross the Pacific. This is due to reading fuel sensors incorectly and also burning more than expected fuel over Japan.
Be interesting to see what develops of this.

He never has much luck, does he? I wish he'd stop wasting his millions and put it into something worthwhile - like me!

Have to hand it to Steve Fossett, this genuinely proves his flying skills (I had been sceptical that he was just "the guy with the money") as it sounds like he had to use his Ballooning and glider experience to pick the right wind patterns and pull it off. Sure he had a massive support crew, but to acheive something like this you have to work as a team. Full credit to him. I hear lots of people knocking Branson, Fossett and likes as the "billionaire boys club". but the investment in technology these guys have made will be valuable to many other, less glamourous areas of aviation. For instance Rutans composites and Williams engines fuel economy. I have heard that this years Oshkosh airshow will have both SpaceshipOne and Global flyer on display (With a replica of Voyager in the EAA museum there as well) - they will go well with all the other Rutan aircraft present. Does Burt Rutan have a thing about making history?

I'd say so. Burt Rutan is just an awesomely talented person. The man is incredible when it comes to taking huge strides ahead in the technology of aircraft design.
His aircraft just keep breaking more and more seemingly "impossible" barriers.
