"Withdrawn by seller" - anyone know on whose behalf it was withdrawn?

Apparently sold to a person in Wanganui with the impetus and resources to return her to flying condition.

I just moved home to Wanganui but I feel I should point out I'm not the new owner! Some exciting news, though.

She was a bit rough after the altercation with terra firma and needed a new prop and engine. The fabric was pretty rough all over as well. From what I hear the new owner has also soured a Tiger project from up Auckland way with a prop and half life engine for around $25k, so for around $60k they could end up with a runner that needs new fabric.

BEF's fabric is not aesthetically pleasing due to the quality of the paint, but it is sound and does not need replacing. Air-frame damage from the starting accident is minimal.

Any update on this anyone?
Was the other "project from up North" perhaps AIL?

BEF is still at Waipukurau awaiting the rebuilt engine before being flown to Wanganui.

I'd be interested to know if the donor was AIL please C E B! I believe the engine is BEF's original rebuilt into a 'new' crankcase.

Cheers
Glad to hear that the damage is so slight as to allow her to be flown to her new home

I'd be interested to know if the donor was AIL please C E B! I believe the engine is BEF's original rebuilt into a 'new' crankcase. Was the crankcase cracked? I read that this can be an issue with Gipsy Majors. Not caused by accidentsal dmaage but normal use. There are one or two repair schemes out there but I also understand the Australian built engines are not as prone to cracking due to better metal makeup and some design changes to give strength to areas known to crack. Of course the two engines I have a both UK built. The dismantled one has had the crankcase NDT'd for crack with none found...........lets hope it stays that way when she finally goes back together.

Yes baz, it was cracked before the incident and was being run "on condition".
The engine is installed and waiting some small components and cowls etc. I expect it to be at its new base soon.

Ah I see thanks. Friend of mine lost a lot of oil externally flying his J5 Auster from Gisborne to Wanaka for the previous Airshow. Yep it had a cracked crankcase but it's now flying again.

ZK-BEF made its first post-repair flights today with no problems. Weather permitting it should be in Wanganui skies tomorrow.

Great news! Just been learning about care and maintenance of the Tiger Moth and Gipsy Major at a course run by Glenn Thompson yesterday. (Just about to do a post about it). Even though I have an Auster I do admire the Tiger Moth!
