Hooper crashed 'near Mangahoe . . . on the late afternoon'.
For my 'Toll of the Air' series appearing in the AHSNZ's quarterly journal The Aero Historian, I am seeking further details about this event. In particular I should like to know at which airstrip/farm property the accident took place and a what time.
Accounts in secondary accounts also vary as to whether Hooper was (a) killed outright in the crash, (b) died of his injuries at the scene soon after the crash or (c) died in Wanganui Hospital. Which of these is correct?
If anyone should have access to New Plymouth (where Hooper was based with Rural Aviation) or Wanganui newspaper reports of the accident, or even a copy of the official accident report (held by Archives NZ who charge a minimum of $50 per report!), these too would be most welcome.
With thanks in advance for any assistance offered.

Thanks to Ray Deerness I have now sorted out the entry for Hooper's fatal accident. You will be able to read all about it and the man himself in a forthcoming issue of 'The Aero Historian'!

Jerry Hooper was an ex Wing Commander and New Zealand's first official ag fatality. I have the report number, but must have mis-filed the report. It is Air 25/3/165 Kevin
