He died suddenly last month at age 72 and the accolades have been pouring in from all ranks who served under or with him. The best comment made about him was that, "as hard as they tried, they could not find someone who'd met him that didn't like him, from a street sweeper to royalty." He was probably most well known for commanding No 1(F) Squadron RAF flying Harrier GR3's during the Falklands War, but his career was so much more than that (like I didn't know he had a tour leading the Red Arrows after turning them down previously because he thought he wasn't ready!) It was great to discover that the Imperial War Museum captured his memoirs as a series of audio recordings. As I am a bit of a Falklands War buff I knew of him but didn't fully understand his role until I heard him talk about it in his own words. If you have a few hours to spare it's definitely worth listening to. Highly recommended.
