Up at 4.30am, on the road at 5.30am and off to Hamilton to see the Balloon Festival. A marvelous morning weatherwise. Just one paddock of fog on the trip down. At Innes Common, pretty clear skies and just 2kts of wind. By my count 23 balloons (thanks Phil!) took to the air. I spotted two locals I had not seen previously: Boland 52-12 ZK-LOP, registered in December 2017 and Hamilton-based and Cameron N-90 ZK-SEL, registered November 2017 also based in Hamilton (more to come)

As well as the special shapes there were four other overseas balloons participating: The Aerostar Raven S-55A N28861 was clearly sponsored by the soft drink manufacturer By contrast, Kavanagh C-77 VH-CQK was quite anonymous Nicely decorated Cameron Z-90 VH-ERY is presumably promoting the owner's business and the Kavanagh D-84 VH-FRE has been a frequent participant in this event over the years, since at least 2009

Moving on to the locally-owned balloons, the Kubjcek BB60Z ZK-UPP/2 was first to lift off, and went for a Lake departure The rest of the field then followed, most choosing a more northerly departure path Suitably easter-ish, the Cameron EGG-65 ZK-EGG/2 looks good. Pity this was also the week when the Cadbury Dunedin manufacturing plant closed down Kavanagh D-90 ZK-PEA Club-owned Cameron O-90 ZK-RYB Boland Rover ZK-WHS Cameron N-105 ZK-FBB/2

The final batch of locals: The Ultamagic S-50 ZK-PMS/2 is a Hamilton resident as is the KubĂcek BB22Z ZK-FRG/2 Cameron C-70 ZK-PPI hails from Auckland as does Cameron C-90 ZK-WON Finally Strata 73-12 ZK-CAF/2 reminds us that its time to pack up and go for coffee! A magnificent morning, and by all accounts the rest of the week has also gone quite well.

Thanks for the updates and photos, Peter. Quite a few flew over home Wednesday morning, none on Thursday, and missed the rest as now in Christchurch. Attended avionics reunion and now about to head South on Duffy books in homes tour.
