Nice selection. I've always thought the Tomcat was one of the most brutal looking fighters ever built, it just has a completely uncompromising angular look to it. A fully loaded F-14 looked like it could scare its opponents to death without firing a shot. And I'm going to risk some wrath here and say I think that the VF-84/VF-103 markings are hands down the best unit colour scheme ever applied to any aircraft ever....... ; Awesome jet, wish I could have seen one fly in person.

Personally, I think that the F-4 Phantom looked to be more aggressive. Still, sad to see the Tomcat butt out.

Ah, the jet made famous by Tom Cruise. Every recruit's dream when I joined the RNZAF. However we never got to even see one, near alone work on them.
I wonder if a NZ Warbirds syndicate could be formed to by one....

Bye Bye 'Cat,...she was a beast for sure.....
Who can remember that amateur video where an F-14 blasted past a couple of USN ships at supersonic low-level and then caught fire forcing the aircrew to eject. I'll see if I can find it.

It wasn't amateur, it was the '48 hours' documentary TV I think, they did a piece around the time of Desert Shield in 1990 covering 48 hours in the the life of an aircraft carrier. I forget which, might have been 'Ranger' or 'John F Kennedy'. I used to have it on video but seem to have lost it somewhere.

Hmmm, I think i have that on tape somewhere come to think of it. It was presented by someone like Dan Rather of 60 Minutes, wasn't it? I don't recall the footage but it's been years since i wartched it. i wonder where that tape is.
