The Brodies at Rangitata Island Airfield hosted the "Anzac in Action" weekend that included the "Victory Ball" on Saturday night to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the end of WW1. The weekend included re-enactments of battle scenes from movies (eg The Great Escape) and notable historic events, presented by the 44 South Military Collectors' Club located in the local South. A Country Fair atmosphere and fantastic Autumnal weather - warm and still - brought out punters from near and far to experience the gunfire, trenches, vintage and classic cars (free rides on many), traction engines, tractors, local cuisine and musical entertainment, and by no means the least attraction, the (in my view) National Asset that is NZRI under the gentle and enthusiastic hands of Russell and Ross Brodie; grass airfield, museum, hangars, aeroplanes, aviating (including DH82 aerobatics and toilet rolls dog-fighting), lots of visiting aircraft and just as much talk. Sigh. Thanks Russell for accommodating, and all the local Geraldine folk and others involved in organising a relaxed and inviting weekend - a throwback to years gone-by in regional NZ. Here is a peek at the weekend (I didn't make it to the Ball or the Movie night on Friday). imagejpeg_200100200320180421_12050020180421_12014720180421_12004620180422_16274920180421_11592120180422_16234720180421_11504220180421_123533See you all next year!

Wow they certainly went full noise for the WW1 display. Shame I missed out. Nice to see a couple of Austers made it too. Well done Brodies!
