Eagles new bird got its pic in the News, pitty there isn't a bit more about the new airfames in the news I have seen it/them a couple of times around dusk, even on Flightradar24! Currently over New Lynn.

Seems they’ve added all the police surveillance gear but also those big wire cutting doodads on top and bottom of the canopy. I guess the Navy didn’t get down n dirty in the streets like the cops.

I was referring to the RAN use of the Bell 429. Traditionally the RAN haven't bothered with wire protection and this was the same for the 429, although we got the fixed provisions during build just in case (plus it s good for reselling). Will you doing an article on the NZ Polices new aircraft?

Calum - When I shot the 429s over in Nowra they actually did quite a bit of flying over land, out in the mountains. They were used to keep the crews current and they could go anywhere and do anything, not just over the water.

Ned I worked on the progamme for pretty much the entire length of it so I have a good idea of what they did and why things were the way they were

Are the Police still using an AS355? There was a blue AS355 (with no FLIR that I could see) bordering on being excessively low poking around groups of trees, probably in a radius of 800 meters or so of the local residence of dubious individuals the other day when they were looking for that person who escaped from custody and captured in Te Awamutu (27/11).

Outside of the Auckland region the Police do utilise other helicopter operators on a regular basis for training, Search & Rescue, etc.

Madmac - No the AS355s were retired and I think Airwork is donating one of them to MOTAT.

This may be of interest to people here. Last year for Level 1 Media Studies we were required to write two news articles for AS90996 (1.8, write two media texts for a specific target audience). The first of these was mandatorily about our school's Polyfest rehearsal which I was the official photographer for (note this is not as impressive as it sounds). The second was our choice. I chose the Police ASU, secured an interview and this was the result. article

Nice work Luis! As a qualified but reformed newspaper journo I see potential there. And, based on the views of forum members, we need more reporters with an aviation knowledge base.

I wouldn't be opposed to going into journalism, in fact it's one of the few career options my particular set of skills will net me. And yes we really need more reporters with an aviation knowledge base.
