It's an ill wind that blows no good! ;D
Flatulent passenger grounds US flight
It may be one problem US airline security officials never envisioned - a passenger lighting matches in flight to mask odours from her flatulence.
The woman's actions resulted in an emergency landing in Nashville of an American Airlines flight bound for Dallas from Washington DC, a spokeswoman for Nashville's airport, Lynne Lowrance, says.
Other passengers reported the odour of burnt matches, but the woman was not forthcoming when asked about it, Ms Lowrance says.
"Of course, she was scared and embarrassed but all the passengers had to disembark, all the luggage had to be searched, a canine team was brought in, and about three hours were consumed in sorting out the situation," she said.
The woman was not allowed back on the flight and barred from flying on American Airlines, Ms Lowrance says.
"Since there was no malice involved and the incident was accidental, she was not charged with anything," she said.
Passengers are permitted four books of paper safety matches on a plane but cannot light them during flight, Ms Lowrance says.
"I've had calls from people all over the country about this and I don't have the answer to this problem," she said.

Lighting matches to mask a fart? Funny when you're a teenager at a party, bit more serious for an adult to do it on board an airliner and not realise the danger! Yet another relation of the 'makeup lady'...

Lighting her farts? ;D
Maybe if she stopped eating boiled cabbage and brussel sprouts........then none of this would have happened? ;D

Also a sniffer dog was apparently sent on board after the passengers were disembarked to check the aircraft over. Shit of a job I would say ;D

How cruel is that - especially since a dog's sense of smell is about 10 000 times stronger than a human's.
Call in the RSPCA! ;D

Call in the RSPCA! ;D There was an afternoon item on yesterday's national radio program about a researcher who was attempting to harness the powers of the bee population(who apparently have a similarly strong sense of smell) in carrying out checks in buildings and aircraft for the presence of explosives. According to him, it is possible to train a bee to carry out this work in 1 - 2 hours. Only in America!

You have to laugh though. It's amazing the Air Marshalls didn't shoot her.
I had heard of the bee thing before. Bees are inherently poor sighted. They do rely on smell to survive but I think they're also inherently stupid. How you can train them to sniff stuff you want sniffed is beyond me. Mind you they probably have more intelligence than many people who work for US Intelligence.

Guys, the use of bees is not so silly as it seems. Imagine having bees buzzing around in the arrivals area, and if they detect anything dodgy on any passengers they immediately go into a frenzy and sting the victim to death! Fantastic deterent, I reckon.

And they could sell the honey to cover any costs involved in training the bees! ;D
