Not quite sure where this should be posted so put it here and happy for it to be moved to a mores suitable location? First saw the film the Battle of Britain in the late 60's as a lad with my late dad. Like many the beginnings of my passion for WW II aeroplanes is rooted in this wonderful movie. Of course this was a battle for survival and it's story has been told by many through various mediums. A very moving tribute to the few that flew fought and died in this conflict resides in the UK, which my wife and I where fortunate to visit recently. Down the bottom of Kent at Capel-le-Ferne looking over the English Channel a stunning Memorial to those that flew, fought and died in the Battle of Britain. The monument is modern, on entry you are greeted with a nice diorama of the site which is great in working out where everything is. The wall to those that fought and two prominent leaders of the battle Keith Park and Hugh Dowding. In the centre of monument a statue of a young pilot looking out to sea. Over to one side a couple of really accurate replicas, they are fibreglass to handle the weather, very well done from a distance they look real. The work horse of the battle the Hawker Hurricane. On the way out of the carpark an ornate brick monument.

The wall to those that fought and two prominent leaders of the battle Keith Park and Hugh Dowding. I went here in 2012 (prior to the building being built), and the wall of names blew me away, as well, it is literally "The Few". A term we all recognize and what they did, but when you actually see how few names there are on that wall, it's astounding.

It's a beautiful monument. Looks like we crossed paths at some stage.

The BoB museum at Hawkinge is only 15 minutes drive from there. I hope you went!

I worked it out in 21 days made 11 aviation related ventures not a bad hit rate? The other factor BOB museum at Hawkinge makes it very clear on there website, strict no cameras policy as they have had many thefts!

The other factor BOB museum at Hawkinge makes it very clear on there website, strict no cameras policy as they have had many thefts! This is true yes. However that doesn't make it any less interesting and I am certain you would have enjoyed it as much as I did (inversely proportional to your wife - mine sat in the car while I went inside). When I was there the locals looked pretty surly so I didn't bother asking for specifics about the photography ban.

Re the wife I sort did a trade, didn't go to Hawkinge so I could go to Cosford, will get back there one day I hope. Cosford has the bonus of having a cafe the wife can bide her time at, but having said that the food was average and coffee terrible.

My biggest annoyance with UK museums was at the height of summer, during school holidays, most only opened at 10am and closed at 4pm. All those long hours of daylight (up to 10pm!) and you have to cram your travelling and attraction visits into a few hours...

Don't go there in winter then Bruce, I found a huge amount of the museums and attractions I wanted to visit were simply closed for the winter.
