Two people lost their lives as a result of a take-off accident in a Convair 340 near Pretoria, South Africa. One was the South African Flight Engineer and another a worker in the dairy where the aircraft came down. The aircraft broke up on impact. Ross Kelly and Doug Haywood from HARS at Albion Park were piloting the machine. All survivors were critically injured but are now detailed as stable. Such a tragedy. Those aboard were apparently being flown as a thank-you for being involved in the aircraft's restoration. Not a lot of information is out there and the details are very sketchy but my thoughts for all the survivors and condolences for the families and friends of those who lost their lives.

The video from outside during takeoff is bad enough, the video from inside is downright scary.

With the recent interest in Convairs on this forum, it is timely that the Aircraft Accident Report for this crash was been released by the SA CAA earlier this month. www.caa.co.za/Accidents%20and%20Incidents%20Reports/9722.pdfWhile the established cause of the crash was the fire in the left engine, the detail of the contributory factors makes for sobering reading.
