Here's a little entertainment for you all........ 1. How many RNZAF Squadrons have operated the McDonnell Douglas Skyhawk? 2. Which aircraft was operated by the RAAF as an interim type until the F-111 was (finally!) accepted into service? 3. Which external component of the A-4 Skyhawk was deactivated during formation aerobatics by the US Navy “Blue Angels”, but not by the RNZAF aerobatic teams? 4. Which aircraft replaced the Aermacchi MB326H as Lead-in Fighter trainer for the RAAF? 5. Which RAAF flying squadrons operate the F/A-18 Hornet from Williamtown? 6. Who is the current chief of the RNZAF? 7. Four RAAF F-111s were modified for a specific role in the early-1980s: what is this role in which they continue to be operated in to this day? 8. Which model of AIM-9 Sidewinder did the RNZAF use on the Skyhawks before the AIM-9L was introduced as part of the Kahu upgrade? 9. The RAAF and Australian Army operated a variant of the Iroquois called Bushranger until 2004: what was this particular version used as? 10. What aircraft type did AVM Morrison apparently envisage to replace the RNZAF’s Sunderlands before the Orion was chosen?

3. No, that's not the item(s) I was thinking about; but I also think you may be correct that the Blue Angels never flew their display with external tanks. I'll give you half a mark for that! ;D

Mumbles, that is correct: the AIM-9G Sidewinder was the model used before the "L" came on line as part of the Kahu upgrade.
Only question 6 remains: and I'l be very disappointed if someone can't answer that!!!! ;D

4. Which aircraft replaced the Aermacchi MB326H as Lead-in Fighter trainer for the RAAF?
The PC9 was a replacement for the CT4. It was decreed to be so good that it actually became the lead in to the jet trainer which at hte time was still the macchi toill the Hawk came into existence. The CT-4 continued on till they were phased out of existence to become warbirds whilt the BFTS was created with not CT-4a but the Airtrainer. So essentially, the airforce still conducts the basic training on the same type but all be it now by civilian aircraft. Although I don't begin to understand how it all works as it is still done somehow by Defence.
Kinda like all our other aircraft operated by defene under the VH Register :-)
