As part of my recent lads tour I arranged through a friend access to the base to see a Typhoon or two up close and personal
Aside from touring the engine bay and admiring the many retired and beautifully preserved former fighter aircraft scattered around this huge Station we were given the opportunity to walk the flight line and stand alongside a couple of Tiffies as they started up and launched. These were the display aircraft heading to RIAT, the prime aircraft was flown and displayed by FLTLT Jim Petersen as well as the reserve bird.
The base is home to 3 FGR4 Squadrons, 3, 11 and 29.
The BBMF hangar was pretty bare with most aircraft over at Fairford for RIAT but we still managed an enjoyable poke around a couple of Spits and Chipmunks!
