Since the huge Photobucket debacle last year, many people have shifted over to using Flickr and it now seems to be the recommended site for hosting photos for this forum. I do not use Flickr myself but ErrolC who does has recommended this link as a handy step by step guide to new users. forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=58015Good Luck!

Flickr have just announced changes. Most notable for free users is that free accounts are limited to 1,000 photos. They have a decent transition period. www.flickr.com/lookingahead/Free members with more than 1,000 photos or videos uploaded to Flickr have until Tuesday, January 8, 2019, to upgrade to Pro or download content over the limit. After January 8, 2019, members over the limit will no longer be able to upload new photos to Flickr. After February 5, 2019, free accounts that contain over 1,000 photos or videos will have content actively deleted -- starting from oldest to newest date uploaded -- to meet the new limit. blog.flickr.net/en/2018/11/01/a-sharper-focus-for-flickr/Lastly, we looked at our members and found a clear line between Free and Pro accounts: the overwhelming majority of Pros have more than 1,000 photos on Flickr, and the vast majority of Free members have fewer than 1,000. We believe we’ve landed on a fair and generous place to draw the line.

this might help to post FLICKR photo's ?
You need 2 windows open & logged in – 1 window is FLICKR – the other is WINGS OVER NZ FORUM
This is for a single photo and assumes you have photo’s in FLICKR or you can access them
FLICKR page – in this window
1. select your photo with your mouse 2. punch the ‘share’ button – bottom right hand corner – symbol is an arrow pointing to upper right 3. a box pops up ‘share 1 photo to’ 4. select your ‘photo size’ / panel (bottom panel of box) 5. copy the ‘URL address’ / panel – just below where you have been – its just above the ‘photo size’ / panel
Go to WINGS OVER NZ FORUM page – in this window
6. at reply box – where you post your reply – you need to punch the RHS button ‘Reply’ o it takes you on a trip to top of page – you might have to scroll there o This is not required starting a new thread – you are there already there 7. type in some text – to allow some room to say something – you can edit / delete it later 8. paste the ‘URL code’ you copied from FLICKR – below the text you have typed 9. punch the bottom LHS ‘BBCode’ button (a format happens) 10. punch the ‘Preview’ button – and see what you have got

I trust you folks are aware of the new Flickr limit of 1000 images for the free accounts effective Jan 8th next year, and that they will stop any new uploads until you meet the limit or upgrade to their Pro version and they will also start deleting data (oldest uploads first) to get you down to the limit.
There's a thread on WIX forum regarding this.
Not as mercenary as PB was but sign of the times and old maxim about free lunches.

If you have pasted photos into a forum site from flikr and do not need the photos anymore in flikr. If you remove photos from flikr it will remove them from the forum site. Happened to two of my photos.

Yes, and if you replace a photo in Flickr (because you have re-edited it, but want to keep the comments etc), then the photo that appears in the forum disappear, but the links still work.

That would be great Shorty. I personally do not know if there are other sites out there other than Flickr and the dreaded Photobucket. I hope someone has a suggestion.

Can proboards be configured so that image files can be directly included within the message text? Just like many message editors used for bbs and mail programs where an insert image button will ask for a file from a local photo directory or wait for photo to be taken. Or like a tablet editor where double tapping during message writing will show a pull down menu for pasting files (images). This current method of including a hyperlink to a image server is just very archaic and involves the nuisance of a third party commercial service just to get a photo into a pro boards message forum. Can an admin investigate? Please?

Sorry, it is not going to happen. To add an image host to the forum it needs to become a paid forum, as in I as the owner would have to pay Proboards for space - and the more photos added the more expensive it becomes to me. I am not prepared to pay to host everyone's photos as there are tens of thousands of photos here and it would be astronomical. I am also not prepared to ask members to pay to use the forum so this can happen, it's way too much of a nightmare to consider that. So the forum is and will remain a third party hosting service.

Ok,I understand, Proboards is a commercial server with charges associated with set service levels. Do you mind me asking if there is Proboards costs for the Wings over NZ series of message boards? So hyperlinking to an image server can be to any internet server? I'm thinking of just using my company server since its permanently on line or perhaps a simple Arduino image server with static IP number.

The forum is a free forum at the moment, and will hopefully stay that way.
Yes you can link to any server, I believe. I like to my own server space which was set up to host the WONZ Show podcasts.

I am verily confused.I spent a fair bit of time recently changing 997 photobucket photos to Flickr to solve the watermark issue on my "stash" thread. I just went back into the stash to look for photo an was stunned to find that the photos have reverted to photobucket. Admittedly i didn't check every page page but can anyone throw any light on why they have done that? Just checked. its from page 43 onwards

Updated instructions that worked as at July 2023.
You need 2 windows open & logged in – 1 window is FLICKR – the other is WINGS OVER NZ FORUM
This is for a single photo and assumes you have photo’s in FLICKR or you can access them
FLICKR page – in this window
1. Select your photo with your mouse. You will need the individual photo, not the photo as displayed on a photostream page. 2. Click the <Share Photo> icon – a curved arrow pointing to upper right 3. A box pops up ‘share 1 photo to:’ 4. Select the <BBCode> option at the top of the box 5. Select your desired photo size from the selection in the drop-down box(bottom panel) 6. <Copy> the URL address from the outlined area in the centre of the box
Go to WINGS OVER NZ FORUM page – in this window
6. You will need a text box, so either select <Create Thread> if you are starting a new thread, or select <Reply> if posting on an existing thread. It is best to avoid the <Quick Reply> text box if you are posting pictures. 7. If you want any text to appear before your picture, type it in first. 8. <Paste> the URL address you copied from FLICKR into the location of your post where you want the picture to display. 9. Click the <Preview> button at the bottom left of the page to see if your picture has displayed correctly. Click back to <BBCode> to make any formatting or text changes, then click <Preview> again to see the results. 10. Click <Create Post> in the bottom right corner to create the post.
