As is going to be obvious bit of a fan of the Catalina, surprising as it may or may
not seem there are from what I can come up with ten of the type (or part there of)
in Australia. Have the afternoon off and it’s hot outside so going to have a go at
pointing them all out! Happy to hear of any more out there I remember there was
a converted house boat which still had it's undercart up north and there is maybe
a couple of wrecks near Cairns, may be others hiding elsewhere in the big brown
land?
1/Lake Boga was a wartime repair station for Australian, American and Dutch
Catalinas, may seem strange to put a repair base for flying boats so central
and miles from the coast. The idea behind this with fear on a Japanese invasion
they would be hidden from the enemies prying eyes.
Ex RAAF Catalina A24-30 is a composite made up from parts collected in the area.

2/ Albany Whale Museum, again a composite machine put together by the late John
Bell, I was lucky enough to visit the Albany Whale Museum in Western Australia and
meet John in the mid 1990’s, have some old slides somewhere. Can’t find much on
her on the net, I see she was for sale at the beginning of last year.

3/Bull Creek Museum Us Navy Cat, visited this one a couple of years ago.

4/Point Cook A24-104 an ex civil machine done up a RAAF amphibian, few years ago
saw her at the wonderful Point Cook RAAF Museum. She was restored by the RAAF
up at Amberly some years back. So she is complete but I don’t think they have the
space to display her in an assembled state, hope this happens one day?

5/ A24-88 Australian National Aviation Museum Moorabbin Airport, Victoria, Australia.
Bit of a drive from Point Cook to Moorabbin but worth it, both great museums!

Will complete this (Part II) the other five, Albion Park, Sydney City, Bankstown, Rathmines
and Longreach after I have given my computer eyes and brain a break!
