Helicopter crash near SH1 north of Taupōabout 1 hour ago A helicopter has crashed after hitting power lines near State Highway 1 at Atiamuri north of Taupō. Emergency services were responding to the crash near Maroa Road after police were notified about 1.50pm. One person has been taken to hospital with moderate injuries. Police initially reported the road was closed, but now say the road is open, although traffic management may be in place. Yes it looks a mess in the photos, glad to hear of a (relatively) good outcome for a change, it's often not the case when wires are involved.
