Monday 18th February will see the 75th Anniversary of this famous raid by RNZAF 487 Squadron. My father : Fred "Steve" Stevenson and his life long friend Merv Darrall flew Mosquito EG - C on the raid leading their section into the North Wall which they did an outstanding job of breeching.

I am not convinced by the research in that film. I have talked with some British experts on the raid, and they all think Ducellier's book is unproven speculation and bordering on nonsense.
The actual records for the raid do not exist, so nothing can be proven one way or another.
But on top of listening to other opinions from researchers and historians, I also met Noel Helean just over ten years ago. He was an RNZAF pilot on No, 486 (NZ) Squadron and was forced down over France when his engine quit on him during an operation. He was rescued by French Resistance and he was hidden in the house of a resistance leader fairly near to Amiens. He was there for some time, and he said the resistance leader was arrested and taken off to the Amiens prison by Gestapo. They did not know about Noel, and he was still hiding there and was being looked after by others. I am sure he said that he'd been told quite a few had been rounded up. One morning he was looking out of the house and saw the Mossies all pass over low, and heard the bombing. He said later they heard that the resistance members had been released by the bombing. So if Noel's information that he was being told at the time by the resistance members is true, there were definitely members of the Resistance held there. Old mate was probably just asking the wrong people.

Just found this little trailer from the BBC - shame the main documentary isn't available. This is part of an interview with Maxwell Sparks from 487 Squadron. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00l8m9g

No problem There's also this one on YouTube that's quite good and features Maxwell Sparks and some footage of 487 Squadron.
