Has there always been 2 x .50 cal on each bridge wing top or has someone finally worked out the arse-end (sorry stern) of Canterbury is horribly exposed against fast small boats, and that having 2 helps to a degree with better coverage?

Are they firing at a towed drogue or other real item? Or are they just firing willy nilly into the sky?
Not really sure why they would use .50 calibre Brownings for air defence in this day and age. How may people on the ship get trained how to shoot them? Everyone? Or just small team?

I first noticed that she had twin 50cals on each bridge wing a few years back... on a YT video and various other videos since, but as said on the wiki talk page since there is no official notice of being up-gunned from... I stated, "It is such a small upgrade that the RNZN wouldn't even mention it and there will be no official notice of upgrade." ... and so the official wiki page says only 2 50 cals Are they firing at a towed drogue or other real item? Or are they just firing willy nilly into the sky? Not really sure why they would use .50 calibre Brownings for air defence in this day and age. How may people on the ship get trained how to shoot them? Everyone? Or just small team? They are most likely shooting at a flare... they are main used in anti pirate... but in anti air the more lead that is in the sky the better chance of a hit...

Good spotting - 2 per side does make a difference, but I still think the alcoves for roping at both stern corners (under flightdeck level) should have 1 x .50 cal each too... HMGs are more likely required in those positions whilst in transit during which the alcove is unlikely to be used for roping. There would be times when rear ramp is in use that ropes will be run from there but I still believe it's do-able. Remembee we're not sending her into full on war zones but FIAC are as much about piracy & terrorism scenarios which she could definitely find herself in.

I have always said the bridges wings should have a mini typhoon each (like the frigates have) and like you said HMGs down aft somewhere as her tail is some what exposed and not really covered...
