I'm not sure how I feel about this. Risk v benefit. Single-engined valuable, historic airframe on a mission for which it wasn't designed. She looks beautiful and inspirational. I wish the team all the luck and hope any gremlins are elsewhere.

I have had the privilege of sitting in this aircraft. Specifically fitted with additional fuel cells in the fuselage and wet wings plus additional oil capacity. Has an endurance of four hours which is in excess of the legs proposed for the flight. Substantial testing undertaken from Duxford for the attempt. Believe me, from the discussions I have had, the 'attempt' would not be taking place if there were the slightest doubt. Engine failure.....it could happen in the aircraft's home airfield circuit.....

David Coulthard was in one of the other Spitfires when G-IRTY departed.
