A fascinating monster, almost C-130 size inside (and out!). I love the (clearly visible to all passengers) tail rotor drive shaft within the cabin; you'd like that item to stay spinning for duration of the flight. Also surprised at how widely this aircraft was used, civil and military, although some smaller operators might have been somewhat taxed by the complexity of it all. Then again, the Russians did try to keep maintenance as simple as possible, and structures as rugged (or more so) than required, or so we are told. David D

A Mil-26 RA-06038 was used by 3 Squadron to transport material from their camp at Dili airport to Suai in November 1999
