The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight have repainted their Spitfire Mk.IIa P7350 to represent Al Deere's "Kiwi III" KL-B from his time with 54 Squadron.

Re KIWI III
Does anyone know if it wore more than one scheme on its undersides- Ie During Operation Dynamo if it wore the Black/White scheme then repainted during the BoB to Sky. I've got the Airfix Mk1 Spit in 1/48 and would like to do a NZ piloted Spit with the 2 tone underside if possible.
Thanks Guys

I'm sure someone here would know but pretty sure they only had the black and white undersides while in France. Obviously some Spitfires would have been seen over England with the black and white undersides. Be interested to hear if any wore this scheme during the Battle of Britain or as Kiwiruna has said they all had sky blue for this period?

P7350 is undergoing restoration by the team at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar at, well, Biggin Hill. I was there last year and although we could take photographs at will, we were expressly forbidden to photograph the BBMF Spitfire. There it is in the background. Biggin Hill Hangar

The White and Night undersurfaces were applied from the end of 1938/early 1939 and remained in various combinations of the theme through until (officially) 6 June 1940, at which time the Sky undersides were introduced to Service aircraft and 11 June for those under construction. There was a variation where the Night was reintroduced on the Port wing underside only against the Sky underside in November 1940, but this lasted only until April 1941 and for a short while the Sky underside remained until 15 August 1941 when the Dark Green/Dark Earth/Sky was replaced by Dark Green/Ocean Grey/Medium Sea Grey.
That's officially how it transpired, but there might be evidence that comes to light that perhaps might show a Spitty wearing the White/Night undersides within the time period of the Battle? Stranger things have happened. One thing about the battle is that over time, research is always ongoing and some things are by no means always certain.

IIRC he flew over Dunkirk in Kiwi I and was shot down.
