The tie pin in the photo below belonged to my grandfather (NZEF Main Body). Does anyone know of the origin of this tie pin or the symbolism it represents. The crescent-star of the modern Turkey is red, yet the pin has a red crescent with a blue star and the shield with which the crescent-star is bordered appears to represent a badge of western authority.
