Took me a minute to realise AWD is Air warfare Destroyer and not all wheel drive.

It is only when you see the stern view that you get the impression that this is quite a large vessel, not like the frigates of old (as in the Whitbys and Leanders). Looking up its specification it has displacement of about 6,250 (long) tons, and if you think that transom is pretty wide, its length to beam ration is almost exactly 8:1, which seems pretty typical of modern combat surface vessels. Really does "look the business". David D

Really does "look the business". David D I agree re the size. When alongside the RAN ANZACs they do look in another league. The naming of them as per the old DDGs is fitting. The new Hunter class will be an interesting comparison also.
