Yeah, the curving road. Or was that a straight road that was refracted by a fish eye lens?

The first and only vehicle that prototypically featured at Cascade River airstrip a Fergusson tractor. In model form, a 1:43.5 scale Fergusson tractor diecast lightly weathered and the first aircraft, an unfinished 1:48th Hughes 500.

The tractor is illustrated at Cascade River fitted with a pile driver to assist with construction of the lower whitebait stands. I assume it could also tow a mower to cut the grass on the runway although this may not have been the case as the 1960 fatal Auster crash on the strip was in part "due to the sluggish acceleration of the Auster on the take off run owing to the overgrown condition of the grass airstrip".

I've spent a few days making three 1/48 scale dingys for this project by pressing out the hull shapes from heated plastic card. Each hull requires three layers glued together.



Each one will be slightly different.

Yeah and also still collecting potential aircraft - a Piper Cherokee off Trademe last week along with a set of very rare Airfix Bitish Army Quad bikes & trailers that will be suitably demobbed

Yeah but only during the whitebait season. My stash for this diorama is definitely growing.

Civi painted quad bike turned out nicely. Now I'm working on a farm trailer and demobilising the Brit soldier into a kiwi rural type

A week with winter illness has really slowed the trailer build but the basic structure is now assembled. The wheels are from a 1/76 Airfix Land Rover

Next are the mudguards.

I spent the weekend at a modellers retreat so details were added and first weathering added.

Yeah but were they scaled down before they were put in tins?

It stared life as a British Wickam OO scale maintenance trolley. A couple of screws we're all that held the body on.



Now it is heading towards being an ex NZR Jigger in 1/48h scale for Cascade River airstrip.
