Does anyone here now Lieutenant Commander Gerald Thomas Purcell? Is he still alive? He would be aged 69 right now. I was reading his page on the Auckland War Memorial Museum site and I thin he would make an interesting subject for a Wings Over New Zealand Show if I could track him down and he was willing to participate. He was a member of the RNZN but he was attached through a Junior Officer Exchange to the US Navy and apparently served onboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk and the destroyer USS William H. Standley during the Vietnam War in 1971. www.aucklandmuseum.com/war-memorial/online-cenotaph/record/86850

Hi Gerry, thanks very much for responding here. I have an aviation history podcast, The Wings Over New Zealand Show. I interview interesting people, mostly Kiwis, with aviation stories to tell. I would love to interview you if possible about your days in the Navy and particularly onboard the USS Kittyhawk aircraft carrier. Would you be keen? The podcast can be found here: www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/WONZ_Show.htmlAnd my email is dave_daasnz@hotmail.com
