Just on the off chance that someone has F4U seat armor in the shed - I have a nice example of P51 Pilots seat armor and was wanting to exchange for either F4U Corsair bulk head armor (the piece that had the crash pad fitted to it) or the square piece of F4U Pilots seat armor (seat was fitted to). Happy to provide drawings / photos if required.

Chook, Question, does your armour plate for the P.51 have any stencilling ?

It doesn't appear to have stencilling and has been completely painted black at some point (along time ago). It does however have the following stamped into the top hardened piece: U 106 73520 8 E1568 3 DG 690 AG 12730
I think the 106 73520 8 is the drawing number

Thanks Chook. I'll check the one I have at home. Mine has "Face" stencilled on the back in white - obviously the hardened face and something else on the seat side which I cannot yet make out. The firewall has quite a few stencils including the part number and factory details on the top centre panel steel on both sides. Interesting to note these things as you would not really expect them. Weighty little items aren't they ......

Hi Mustang51, that's very interesting, your example sounds to be in very original condition whereas mine has a bit of pitting etc. Yes they are a tad weighty, not something to drop on your toe!

Many thanks, interesting . I wonder what the final serial on the drawing number denotes, drawing version maybe?

Chook, From my understanding it could be the amendment status to the drawing that produces the part where the parts are not handed. May be wrong about this but these parts are not 'handed' and the part number subscript number otherwise always refers to whether left or right

Thanks, thats interesting. Apparently there are a few sets of seat armor with the ex John Smith P51, it would be interesting to compare.

Anyone heading there to have a look? Be nice to see the original colours as well. Back of mine is black with that white stencil.
