Having recently acquired the latest incarnation of Turby CBN, I'm interested in learning more about Aerocraft and the kits produced at Palmerston North (Kairangi). The Civair Blog has provided many photos and a brief history (thanks Keith) but I'd like to hear more - especially from Nathan Rayner and Ian Williams.
My intention is to build CBN into a replica of the Merv Meredith original as far as it's practically possible to do so.

Interested to read CBN is to be restored to its original status. I seem to recall it was painted yellow/white when operated by Merv. I have had three article published on New Zealand Turbulents, at least one of them giving an insight into the workings of Aerocraft Ltd. They were published in New Zealand Wings November 1989, Sport Flying Spring 1998 and Pacific Wings May 2000. If you're able to get hold of these you may find what you are looking for. Madmax

I have the Sport Flying archives since I am the editor these days but alas the archive I have only seems to go back to 2002.
As Madmax says he has all three articles, hopefully he can perhaps scan them for you.

Great movie! Classic design and engine combo that spearheaded the homebuilt scene in NZ. Who'd have thought so much fun could be had behind a VW flat 4? I'll bet Hitler didn't

Have you had a listen to the WONZ Show episode with John Hansen, Johnny? He talked a fair bit about his little Turbulent.

Not yet Dave, but will do, thanks. I'll have to check Dad's logbook to see if it was CAE or CAH that I can remember him flying

Madmax Here is a link to Keith's blog on Turbulents including CBN: nzcivair.blogspot.com/2010/05/turbulents-of-new-zealand-4.htmlThis has the only colour photo I've seen of CBN in its original scheme, but it looks more gold/white/black than yellow/white/black. I know it's over fifty years ago, but can anyone remember or confirm?

I seem to recall the yellow/gold was a lighter than it appears in this image and was similar to the shade of yellow on his Minicab DAG. But its an awful long time ago and memories do play tricks

Fairly certain Merv Meredith was a teacher at Rongotai College when he was constructing his one?
That is a great movie of CAH - thanks for posting.
Intriguing to see Barry’s head and shoulders above the combing ... I was offered a go in one in the ‘ 60s but was just too tall to fit in it.

Chinapilot. I'm fairly sure Merv Meredith was from a farming family. When I first meet him in the early 70s he was working the family farm at Waipukurau. As for being too tall, I recall an incident with BWE at a Masterton airdisplay in the 60s when it took several people to extricate a large gentleman from the aircraft after he had 'tried it for size"
