Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 Cobber Kain.

Hi all. Hope all is well over in NZ!    
I have just completedan Airfix fabric wing Hurricane Mk. 1 of 73 Squadron RAF as flown by Cobber Kain early 1940.  I am not certain whether it had the two blade propeller but as this particular issue of the kit only has the DH 3 blade prop so I used that. It does seem, however, that some Hurricanes in France early 1940 were  fitted with the 3 blade prop as replacemenet so I went with that. Enjoy.

Hi Paul,
That is a great build, and it's on my list to do one day. Can I assume this is 1/72? Also where did you get the decals please. Finally I believe his Hurricane had the 2 blade prop, I've got some photos in my reference library of Hurricanes of a similar vintage and models I've seen show the 2 blades.
Also this might be of help if you use get the Airfix Mk1 Spitfire. should be a inexpensive replacement

Hi.   
Many thanks for your comments.  It is 1/72nd from the Airfix kit of the fabric wing version.  The decals are by Plastic Parts or someone like that from the Czech republic.  But the ones I used were donated to me by a member on Britmodeller, from that set, as I have been unable to source the complete set.
I am aware about the prop and  the one I have used is only placed unglued until I can source a Watts two blader from somewhere. The Spitfire one is not quite right for the Hurricane on account of the spinner.  Also the aerial mast needs to be replaced with a simple straight 'pole' type which I will do soon with some plastic rod of the right size cut to fit.   
Funny enough i have seen photos of the time showing 73 Squadron Hurricanes in France 1940 showing 3 blade props and aircraft wearing serials  when serials were painted out! A bit of a mine field out there so good references are key.  As for mine, its something I wanted to completeand 'show off' before I left it too long. But as it stands at the moment, I am happy.

Incidentally, I also corrected the fabric area behind the gun bay by filling and sanding down to better replicate the metal area as it was on the real Hurricanes with fabric wings.

According to Burns (1992), 73 Squadron upgraded their Hurricanes mid-March, 1940 so it's likely by April/May Kain was flying 3-bladed prop Hurricanes.
