Things are building up at Temora for the RAAF Centenary Aircraft Showcase this weekend. A number of arrivals today to add to the Temora based aircraft. The three of RAAF static display aircraft arrived, C-130J, PC-21 and Hawk, and were parked up in the small hardstanding area in the middle of the General Admission area. The C-130 backed itself into position which was fun to see. A gaggle of trainers - Winjeels and CT-4s made a noisy arrival, as did the pair of a Harvard and BT-14. HARS arrivals included a Caribou, their Catalina and their more recent acquisition the RAN Iroquois which produced a huge cloud of red dust as it hover taxied in. More aircraft were expected to arrive after I left late this afternoon and before the flying program starts tomorrow morning. Lots of photos already taken with expectation of even more over next two days.

Must be the first time in a few years that three airworthy Spitfires have been together in Aussie?

Must be the first time in a few years that three airworthy Spitfires have been together in Aussie? JDK's guess is 1945! Exciting times at the @temoraaviation museum, with the Southern Knights performing over TWO Boomerangs to fly on the weekend, and THREE Spitfires - probably the first time there’s been three airworthy Spits flying together in Aus since - 1945? -JDK

Well 32Gbs of memory and two battery packs later and that's today done. Full on day including a number of Australian airshow firsts, all narrated with the dulcet tones of Ando, with a few strategic periods of silence to hear the aircraft have their own say. Three Spitfires, two Boomerangs, two P-40s, one P-51 (maybe two tomorrow), plus engine run by the Canberra (still awaiting final paperwork approvals by RAAF), usual TAM lineup with lots of visitors including Catalina, Caribou, Iroquois and Sioux from HARS, lots to see and photograph. Finale of P-40, two Spitfires and F-35 in a Heritage Flight followed by F-35 handling display - very LOUD! Time to rest, reload, recharge and do it all again tomorrow.

Nice one Col', thanks for the updates for all us country cousins over here! Looking forward to your pics. Don't forget to apply after-sun lotion, and sun-screen tomorrow!
What a bloke. I guess someone has to take the hit for everyone else...

Day two, more GBs of photos taken and battery charge consumed, topped off with multiple layers of sunscreen and lots of water consumed. Another fine and sunny day with some high cloud building up during the day. Similar to day one, but the HARS Catalina did not fly - I heard that they had a technical issue. More flying by the trio of Spitfires, the two P-40s and Mustang. The second Mustang arrived during the morning but did not fly during the display. The two Boomerangs did a good display along with the Hudson. Another engine run by the Canberra before the start of flying helped keep the crowd entertained before flying started. I head back home tomorrow then will download the photos and post up some of the better ones later in the day. Time to now go and find dinner with a beer and then put my feet up to relax.

Dave, Ando in his commentary did mention the Covid woes in NZ last weekend in reminding the crowd to follow the Covid rules for the event. He also mentioned the thriving NZ warbird scene and gave this site a plug. As an aside, talking to a number of avid Australian warbird and aviation enthusiasts who like me had planned to be at Classic Fighters this year, but because of the ongoing travel restrictions are not able to attend, also many very wary of committing to Wanaka next year due to the levels of uncertainty for future travel arrangements. However, many expressed their desire to plan from 2023 onwards as they are missing their NZ airshow 'fix'.

It is really wonderful how Ando always gives the Wings Over New Zealand Forum a nice plug at the airshows he commentates at, in Aussie, New Zealand, and even the UK. I always appreciate this special VIP publicity he gives us.

Home. Looks like Temora had the weather gods on their side as well. By late in the day yesterday the leading edge of a weather front was approaching the area. This was shown in the increased high level cloud coming in later in the day, with the occasional lower piece of cloud. As a result, a number of the partcipating aircraft who wanted to get home ahead of the weather, either left when their display commitments were completed and there was a suitable gap in the program, or joined the mass exodus at the end of the day's proceedings. Woke up this morning at where I was staying in Wagga Wagga to the sight of 10/10ths low solid overcast. Encountered a couple of rain patches on the drive home to Canberra, so yes, even the weather gods gave Temora a good weekend for the Air Force Centenary Aircraft Showcase Weekend. Just finished downloading 8708 images totalling 47.5GBs and have now just started having a look at what I captured. However, in a quick flick through a couple of photos caught my eye. So here is a little Spitfire Sampler of what is to come. Spitfire Sampler by Colin Ford, on Flickr Spitfire Sampler 2 by Colin Ford, on Flickr And Yes, now we have THREE........ Spitfire Sampler THREE by Colin Ford, on Flickr More later.

Started the process of going through the photos and realised it will be a marathon not a sprint. Plus, the endeavours of the last four days is catching up with me, further influenced by a very large glass of a very fine beer, and my "low energy warning light" is starting to flicker. Anyhow, this event marked the first time I had seen the 'new' Roulettes with the PC-21. I had seen singles and pairs displaying the PC-21, but this was to be the first time seeing a full Roulettes team flying the PC-21. BUT, (yeh s--t happens) for their Saturday debut one of the aircraft went 'technical after take off and they were down to a five aircraft display. So Saturday got a modified display, but it was still good, especially as they now have the wing mounted smoke generators ala Yak-3M Steadfast......did I tell you the story about the Roulette ground crew and the Steadfast ground crew who were staying at the same hotel as me at Warbirds Down Under 2018 and the animated discussions about smoke generators and some ideas for the newly arrived PC-21s............ But back to the photos, we introduce the RAAF Roulettes for 2021, Saturday display with five ship routine. Usual entry from behind the crowd over the top of the main display hangar at Temora. Roulettes Saturday 5 - 1 by Colin Ford, on Flickr Roulettes Saturday 5 - 2 by Colin Ford, on Flickr Roulettes Saturday 5 - 3 by Colin Ford, on Flickr Roulettes Saturday 5 - 4 by Colin Ford, on Flickr Roulettes Saturday 5 - 5 by Colin Ford, on Flickr Roulettes Saturday 5 - 6 by Colin Ford, on Flickr Roulettes Saturday 5 - 7 by Colin Ford, on Flickr Roulettes 5 - 8 by Colin Ford, on Flickr Roulettes Saturday 5 - 9 by Colin Ford, on Flickr Roulettes Saturday 5 - 10 by Colin Ford, on Flickr Roulettes Saturday 5 -11 by Colin Ford, on Flickr I am still a bit uncertain about the new colour scheme on the RAAF PC-21s. I have been told that there are various themes to the scheme and that it also has some visual cue factors built in for formation aerobatic flying, but it looks very 'busy' and not as 'clean' as some of the previous schemes used by the Roulettes. More to follow.
