Cool, great to hear there's an intention to restore her, or even at the very least tidy her up. Curious thing tho... why would you plonk her on top of containers if you're intending to work on her!?!

Probably to keep it out of reach from unwanted attention?

I just saw on Facebook, the DC-3 is on a truck and is apparently "Going to be an Air B&B in West Auckland - heading north tonight from Shannon."

Good to see the new owner is ex-RNZAF. He should have the skills to take care of it, hopefully.

Good to read about this but no, the RNZAF did not name this aircraft Poaka. That name was given to it by NAC. According to my father, it had the nickname "The Wrigley's plane" in reference to P K Chewing gum. Initially, it was to be registered as ZK-AOK and it would serve as a freighter but instead NAC, did not have a use for it at that time so that registration was cancelled. When it was required, it became ZK-APK and served as a passenger aircraft. ZK-AOG had a similar but opposite experience. It was to be a passenger aircraft registered ZK-AOG but it too wasn't required but in time became ZK-AQP and flew only as a DC-3 freighter.
