I am surprised no-one has mentioned this.

Yep, just leaves the 787 to fly the wide-body flag. Shame, the passing of an icon with no fanfare or any real longevity

By 2027 (777-300ER). Still plenty of time for fanfare and a typically misleading headline.

Actually I am surprised AirNZ isn't converting any to freighter configuration for their use, tourism doesn't look to be coming back to anything remotely close to previous passenger levels (well at least for this decade).

Given the RNZAF is to replace the 757s at some stage in the next few years maybe a deal could be done.

Given the RNZAF is to replace the 757s at some stage in the next few years maybe a deal could be done. There has been some informed discussion on other sites that 777-200 would not be able to operate loaded from Phoenix Field, McMurdo Sound due to excess ground pressure exerted by the main undercarriage. (A linear 6 wheel bogies system). This would be a major impediment to the selection of this type.

the B777-200 has a max weight of 505,000 -545,000 lbs. The B757 has a max weight of 255,000 lbs. In comparison a C-17 has a max weight of 170,000 lbs. The B777 would probably be a bit too big for the RNZAF I would think, but never say never, you never know what could happen!

Ok. I was just quoting from Wikipedia. 170,000 is the maximum payload, the maximum take off weight is 585,000lbs. So you're right Deane. I was just quoting the payload. That sure is a lot of weight for the C-17.
